The Body Remembers: Gratitude and Trauma
According to Wikipedia, “Social emotions are emotions that depend upon the thoughts, feelings or actions of other people, ‘as experienced, recalled, anticipated or imagined at first hand.’” Interestingly, gratitude is considered a social emotion. As I am reading The Body Keeps the Score, it strikes me that gratitude, just like trauma, can be “experienced, recalled, anticipated or imagined…first hand.” If your body can remember the bad, it can also remember the good. There’s always balance in the Universe, right? So savoring those moments of appreciation for life and others and recalling them when necessary - especially with focus and intention - I can only imagine how much progress one can make with healing.
